Play Go In The Nation's Capital

The George Mason University - Northern Virginia Go Club (GMU-NOVA), in association with the American Go Association, invites you to join hundreds of fellow go enthusiasts in celebrating the 25th annual US Go Congress. You will enjoy the best of go in America with a full week of tournament play, game review, and learning new go skills.

Major tournaments during the week include the 6-round US Open, the North American Ing Master's Championship, and the Redmond Cup for the youth. Other tournaments available to all registered players include the 9x9, 13x13, Lightning Go, Pair Go, Crazy Go, and more.

There will be over a dozen professional players from around the world to provide lectures, game reviews, private instruction, and simultaneous games.

Keep an eye out for announcements concerning some very special guests.

Exploring GMU and Washington

George Mason University, named for one of our Founding Fathers, is located on 677 beautiful acres in Fairfax, VA, roughly 15 miles from the White House. GMU, recently named the top up-and-coming university in America, will provide a wonderful setting for our Silver Anniversary congress.

For those wishing to explore Washington, DC and the surrounding area, the National Mall is just 55 minutes away by public transportation. One of the nicest aspects of visiting the nation's capital is that so much is free and accessible by the metro.

Generally, the weather is warm and sunny with occasional thunderstorms. The highs average 86F with lows of 69F.

Wednesday tours will include excursions to many of the most popular destinations such as the Smithsonian Museums, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, historic Annapolis, Maryland, Civil War historic sites, and more. There will also be the opportunity for a group outing to a Washington Nationals baseball game.

The two closest airports to GMU are Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA). Shuttle service will be available on arrival and leaving days. Amtrak service is also available through Union Station and then the Metro to the Vienna-GMU orange line station.

Accommodations

All rooms are air-conditioned. Two types of dorms are available. Traditional dorm-style with roughly a dozen rooms per floor all sharing a common bathroom/shower space. Laundry facilities are available in each building and replacement linens will be available for an additional fee.
